Welcome to the BIZ!!

This is my first entry!! So I'm gonna take this time to bitch! That's what these things are for, right? (Kidding.) I spent the last week and 1/2 on "vacation" meaning I turned 32, exhausted myself being a people pleaser, and bought a PDA under the hard realization that I have to organize and get a solid handle on "My business!" The business of songwriting and touring in a band has turned into "deadlines and commitments. What to leave in, what to leave out" as Bob Segar said. My pen and paper have become a PC. Instead of spending my days opening my mind, looking around me and soaking up my surroundings in hopes of a good song idea and a new perspective on life I'm spending them making executive decisions on tour scheduling and cost effective merch ideas! So I'm doing my best to keep it together and I hope noone takes me wrong for speaking my mind, but if I could give any advice to a singer/songwriter just getting started I'd say screw the guitar lessons and go to business school! :)

I haven't done much blogging myself but just wanted to say how much I enjoy your music and that I'm a big fan. I live just south of Indianapolis, IN and have been spreading your music around to friends. Hope to see you up this way some day. Keep up the good work!!

Hang in there my man, you aren't too far from having people who will do that stuff for you. On another note, you sounded great on Reg's Coffeehouse. I'll be out there to see you very soon.

Sincerely,

Fat "Hey Hey Hey" Albert

You have been doing this for years...and you know that is why you are finally getting the respect you deserve...because you are a people pleaser you are accessible to your fans and that is what got you where you are these days because you are patient and will play whatever bullshit they want to hear...and as bad as it sucks, that is your best quality. Down to earth, but yet badass at what you do I can not explain what kind of times I have had on the nights that Adam Hood and Patrick lunceford have come to town, hell, Justin Johnson...If it makes you feel any better I have skipped my senior seminar class to go see you play at George Street on a Monday night, taken off work 3 times to see you in Birmingham on a Thursday night...(which by the way has always been a good show, but the people in Birmingham have no respect for good tunes and it is hard to make your way...unless you are sister hazel, creed, train or John Mayer...the people in Birmingham if told what to do, have a good ear for up and coming bands) Reg's coffee House was great for you because the listeners now know an artist in Alabama that is worth Reg playing on air with Kim Richey...I know you have heard this all before but you have created a lot of fans not only by the great music but being an artist that people can relate too. Anyone, weather it is some frat boys in Mississippi requesting some incredible covers ( Patty Griffin, Drive by truckers, early Delbert, or whatever you feel worthy of covering at the time. because trust me they are going to go out and buy it) or if its some tire factory worker in Gadsden requesting play something we know and everything included in the song...no matter what kind of fan you are; a likable guy/guys...down to earth/cheesy when you have to be...so I know you like to drive and it is a bitch sometimes. Just remember you have an abundance of fans that you earned from doing what you do best relating to people on a personal level weather it is from hanging out after the show or your lyrics...people can relate to you. . I know it is hard to put on that face every night…the Jaeger, Dixieland Delight, and Cougars that want some Adam Hood. But it is what you do…not to disappoint and it speaks volumes that almost always someone brings a bottle of Jaeger to one of your shows, even if it is five years ago and now you and I almost throw up every time we take a shot…they remember because they can relate!
This was not a rant about how you should not feel the way do because being on the road 320 days a year, always expected to be your best is indescribable...but more of an appreciative rambling.
